AJEH Free Patient Residence Building

Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital

Overview

BuiltX was commissioned by Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital to construct a new patient housing facility in Parsa, Bihar. The facility would provide housing for patients who are traveling from rural areas to receive treatment at the hospital.

The Project Owner

Akhand Jyoti is a non-profit organization that aims to eliminate curable blindness in the state of Bihar by 2026 by providing affordable, accessible, sustainable, quality curative and preventive eye care services. Their focus is on low-income communities, and 80% of their surgeries are free of cost. In addition, they empower women to lead their blindness eradication efforts. The hospital is a unit of Yugrishi Shriram Sharma Acharya Charitable Trust.

The Challenges

There were several challenges for us. However, our objective was to complete the project on time and within budget. BuiltX was faced with a challenge when the architectural design for a new building was delayed. The delay pushed back the completion date of the project, which meant that BuiltX had to find a way to complete the project on time and within budget.

A tight timeline: Completion date was pushed back due to delay in design.

Limited budget: Had to find a way to complete the project on time and within budget.

Location: The location, Parsa, posed the biggest challenge. Being a rural area, there were limited transportation networks, power supply, construction materials, regulatory approvals and permits, and most importantly - skilled labour that a project of this scale would need.

BuiltX was able to overcome the challenges of this project and achieve their objectives.

How We Approached It

BuiltX overcame these challenges by:

Close collaboration: Working closely with the architect to ensure that the design was completed on time.

Efficient project management: Scheduling regular inspections to ensure that the work was being done to their high standards.

Strict safety measures: Implementing safety measures to protect workers.
